How to apply

Preparation - New or Bare
Prior to coating all surfaces must be thoroughly free from all dirt, dust, grease, wax and oil. Ensure the surface is clean, smooth and completely dry before applying the product. Wash timber thoroughly with an oxalic acid based timber cleaner to prepare the surface, removing dirt, mildew, mould, oil, wax and soluble tannins.
  1. Wet the timber with fresh water.
  2. Dilute the oxalic acid timber cleaner as per label instructions.
  3. Using the deck scrub brush scrub the solution into the timber, following label instructions.
  4. Wash the surface again with fresh water to remove all solution and allow to dry thoroughly. This may take 24-48 hours.

Preparation - Previously Painted or Stained
All paint and stain must be thoroughly removed by stripping or sanding back to bare timber. Ensure all sanding dust is removed and clean with a timber cleaner.
  1. Punch any nails below the surface
  2. Remove any paint or stain from the timber by sanding. If the timber is contaminated with mould, fungi or algae wash well with a household bleach diluted 3:1 with water, then wash again with fresh water.
  3. Proceed as for bare timber.

Application

Stir the product well, before and during use, using a wide (approx 25mm) flat stirrer in a circular lifting motion. This will ensure all ingredients are properly mixed.
  1. Using a good quality brush cut in along the edges of the deck, ensuring that the end grain is thoroughly coated. Do not work too far ahead when cutting in.
  2. Apply one generous coat by good quality brush or lambswool applicator (an applicator is easier on large jobs). As you move along the length of the boards, work the oil into the timber by back brushing.
  3. After 15-20 minutes, remove any excess oil by wiping with a dry applicator.
Between Coats
  • Allow 24 hours drying
  • Apply 2 coats

Maintenance
  • Clean using a soft bristle brush and water or a high pressure cleaner
  • Re-apply when water repellency is lost due to weathering. Clean as per instructions and apply 1-2 more coats.
