Estimating the correct amount of paint required for a particular room is complicated, right? It needn't be, by simply setting some guidelines and following them, anybody can estimate correctly. The first step is to correctly measure the area to be painted. Measure the distance around the room, and the ceiling height to be painted. Apply these measurements to our online calculator below and the answer will be correct to within half a litre.
Remember, the answer shown is based on one coat only and doors and windows etc. are not included in the calculation.
Please note: For porous or rough surfaces, add approximately 20% to the first coat quantity. Complicated mouldings and fittings will require extra paint.
Remember to measure doors, windows and other areas that may not be painted (width x height) and to subtract the square metreage from the overall job.
On average a four litre can will cover approximately 64 square metre.
